Intergenerational Justice Work
"Justice is what love looks like in public." - Dr. Cornel West
UUCA affirms, promotes, and actively participates in a variety of social and environmental movements and initiatives. We speak out against all forms of oppressive systems. We remain in solidarity with those who are impacted most by those systems. And we advocate for environmental justice, which usually impacts targeted individuals and communities first.
We have a legacy of "deeds not creeds." Our work for a more just world calls us to unexpected places as we harness love’s power to stop oppression. From grassroots community organizing to interfaith state, national and corporate advocacy; in protest marches, prayer vigils, and press conferences; in homeless shelters and in prisons, Unitarian Universalists put faith into action.
Our justice efforts are grounded in deeply held, mission driven theological values. We honor the interconnectedness of all life. We model these commitments by creating just, welcoming, and inclusive congregations. We act in partnership with groups and communities most impacted by injustice on local, state, national, and international levels. We share both our volunteer and financial resources with non-profit organizations doing meaningful work in our community.
Our ministry includes education, advocacy, and public witness (the spiritual practice of taking a public position in support of justice). Working for justice and equity in our own community and beyond is an integral part of what it means to be a Unitarian Universalist.
As a congregation, we are charged and
empowered to “come alive with a passion for justice and work as a faith community to positively affect the environment and lives of people beyond the walls of our Congregation.”
